Hey babes, welcome! I’m sure many of you are here because you know the 5th annual Tone it up bikini series will be starting very soon! If you aren’t familiar, pop on over to Toneitup, read ALL about it and come back to me. I’ll wait. 😉 Now,grab yourself a cup of tea and have a sit down with me as I share with you some advice on what has helped me with the bikini series challenges! This will be my 5th year participating and along the way I have learned a few things that I thought may or may not help you in the journey of reaching your health and fitness goals. Let’s jump right in, shall we? First, set your intentions.
Set out your intentions, how do you see yourself during the challenge..and after? How do you want to feel? Write it all down. Create a vision board, either somewhere in your home, on Pinterest or your wallpaper on your laptop. Setting up motivation where ever is possible helped me a lot when I was lacking it myself.
Take measurements and photos for your before. I hid from cameras during my “before” phase and while I have a few scattered photos from that time period, I wish I did take a proper before photo. Track your progress. You will have times when you feel like change isn’t happening, these before photos will help you see even the tiniest changes, even if you are just more radiant and smiling more. Trust me, it’s worth it.
Use a journal, planner or in my case, a whiteboard. Journal your food, water intake, even your mood if you want. Write down the work outs for the week and check them off as you go.
Meal prep and plan. Take the time to sit down and do this important step. Usually every Sunday I plan my meals & snacks for the week. Start doing this now if you are not already. Sunday is also when I map out my workouts for the week as well. Visualization is key. Note to those on the nutrition plan, this is a good time to reread over all the information and give yourself a little bit of a refresher. I recommend reading pages 4-66 before starting meal planning and prepping.
Get connected. Create a TIU account on social media. Instagram is a great place to find other bikini series participants. Find groups in your area either on facebook or in the community. Find yourself an accountability partner, it makes it even more fun. Post photos of the workouts you did, hell even the food you ate, us tone it up girls just love seeing yummy healthy food. It’s our thing. Haha. Just check in! You are all more than welcome to follow Lindsay and I on instagram, we are more than happy to cheer you all on! You can also see how we are coming along with the series!
Know that especially if it’s your first time doing the bikini series, that this is just the beginning! I can reflect back to my first time doing the bikini series back when it first launched. I was JUST starting to take rein on my life, beginning to cut out things like weekly frapps from Starbucks, soda and being pretty much sedentary,to making the decision to do this challenge. I had NEVER worked out a day in my life prior to this. It was a challenge for me, I could barely do three “tummy tucks” without my arms giving away. It was very hard but I knew in my heart it was a better path for me than the one I was walking on. You just gotta keep going and know it’s worth it all! I completed the first bikini series, even won some prizes but most of all it changed my attitude toward my life. I went on to buying the nutrition plan and continued after the series with tone it up workouts and lost 40 pounds, and five years later…it’s still OFF! You will gain healthy habits, kick start your metabolism and make tons of healthy friendships.
Back to what I mentioned above, to take rein on your life. Start cutting out junk now! No more processed junk, fake sugars, drinks with more sugar than 3 candy bars, just bleh. Start introducing whole foods and hydrating water into your body so you can perform at your best. Also get plenty of sleep, foam roll and stretch. Remember to take rest days, it’s totally fine and is absolutely necessary. Be patient with yourself, don’t give up and just do your best.
I hope these things will maybe help some of you along the way. I just happened to find them helpful and wanted to share with you all. I wish you all the best and let’s kick some bikini booty! Warm hugs! -K
