Hello lovely ladies! And maybe a few gents that might be out there.
I have had a rough two weeks. And Kelly and I have discussed not censoring ourselves simply because what we’re writing is soooo out in public once we hit “publish.” So here it goes.
I had a shit project at work. Actually, the project wasn’t shit. Neither was the client. But the way things went down? Well. Shit.
A client needed a website programmed. It was an unusual project because we are a creative services agency. We focus on branding and design. But this client already had the designs and he just needed our developers to make WordPress look exactly like the designs he gave us. Ok, I could work with that. I needed to because I really wanted to bump up my cash flow before the holidays. So we signed contracts, put our developer on the task and we were off to the races.
Well, my developer quit THE DAY BEFORE the project was to launch. Not only was that horrible timing but he also left the project mostly unfinished. The 1/3 that he did do was horrible quality. I hope he is reading this blog, to which I say, you did me no favors and I really hope that karma comes back around to you, sir.
As a business owner, your first thought is “How can I fix this?” So I explained to the client what happened and hired another developer who swore he could get it to me on time and perfect.
Welp. I hope karma bites him in the butt too because he also missed his deadline and things were NO WHERE NEAR finished. At least he didn’t quit. But he didn’t bother to acknowledge that he had missed a deadline and sends me a sweet little email saying “I’m out of pocket this weekend but I’ll check emails here and there.” That’s literally all he said.
The client is understandably pissed at this point. I’m pissed too. But I can’t go back to him and say another developer screwed us over! It’s starting to sound like excuses at this point. So I bow out graciously. I refer him to a development agency that I have a relationship with in town and try to make the process as easy as I can for my client. Then I fired my developer.
I learned a lesson from this. Don’t base your reputation on something that is beyond your skill set. I’m not a developer and therefore I really shouldn’t be basing my reputation on programming. Fair enough, I’ve thought of other solutions at this point.
Another lesson was learned. Scale back your business if you think you have a quality issue. That means less money temporarily but it enables you to hold your head high with integrity. Unlike those two developers I mentioned. They should hold their head in shame as they had NO integrity in this situation.
Final lesson learned? HIT THE RESET BUTTON! By the way, this can be applied whenever you’re having a major issue. Business, personal, whichever.
HITTING THE RESET BUTTON.
I need to reset my business. That doesn’t mean change routes, it doesn’t mean throw in the towel, but it does mean, reset.
How will I do that? I’m heading to San Jose, CA this weekend with a client and we’ve created a trade. We’re going to work on my business (analyze the inefficiencies, brainstorm solutions, etc) one day, we’ll work on his company the next day, and the third day, we’ll be in a big sales meeting that will hopefully benefit both of our companies. That’s the first step. Second step is, like I said earlier, I’m scaling back. Getting more narrow in my focus of what Logan Gattis does. Who we target. How we can best serve our clientele.
And after that, well ask me after this weekend. But that’s at least a good start.
Because my new motto is “Ain’t nobody got time to be broke.” And girl (or gent), if you are heading towards a quality issue, you’re going to be broke. So pull yourself out of the trenches and get yourself an RV to go glamping in. (Ask Kelly about this one!)
Until next time!
As you may or may not know, I’m going to California in 2 weeks for the Toneitup Retreat! I’ve been a member of TIU for over four years! Basically it’s the ultimate girl’s trip! I get to meet my trainers, 300 other Tiuteam ladies and have the best birthday weekend ever! Surfing, running a 5k, SUP, and dancing the night away!
This video is just about what I’m planning to take on my journey!

School has started back up for most, work is happening full force and sometimes, you just don’t have a lotta time. It’s cool, we feel ya!
This week is all about quick, yummy healthy foods that MIGHT be a little cute too.
Part of the Unconventional Guide To Livin’ The Good Life Series is a mini meal plan. We don’t want to tell you every morsel to put in your mouth daily because we want you to take control. BUT we want to help give you ideas for various situations you might find yourself in. So we created one full day of meals and snacks for the work week, and one full day of meals and snacks on the weekend (aka a “cheat day.”) If you have any specific questions, situations, etc that you need help with, reach out to us and we’ll figure something out for you!
I got a hold of pinterest and it would not let go! Let’s face it, it’s awesome. Well last night, I found a healthier twist to this cookie (more like a granola bite really) my late sweet grandma used to (not) bake. They are awesome and that’s right, no bake! I gave them a test run and folks, we approve! I had one for breakfast and it was perfect for my crazy morning. Here we go!
- 1 cup natural peanut butter (almond and sun butter should work as well)
- 3/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (or butter if you prefer)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups quick oats ( I used rolled oats because that’s what I had & it worked great)
- 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
Gently melt nut butter, honey and oil until combined. Stir in remaining ingredients until it all comes together. By the spoonful, place on wax paper and refrigerate.
For lunches, I was inspired by these Bento style lunchboxes. I think they would work well for adults too, I mean look at them!
*Bento is a single-portion take out or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine.
Get creative! It can be simple like a tuna sandwich, some fruit and veggies, just make it look fun! CUTE.
Dinner- I don’t know about y’all but when things get busy, I start to really love my crockpot. Like really. GAME. CHANGER. This last weekend, I made chili. Yes, I know it’s still summer, don’t judge me! Hahaha. I’m going to share my chili recipe. If you’re not feeling chili this week, feel free to use your favorite crock pot recipe, bust it out friend!
Two 14.5-oz cans diced tomatoes * (I prefer to buy no salt added)
1 can tomato sauce
2 lb. lean ground turkey
4 Tbsp. chili powder
One 15-oz. can dark kidney beans, drained and rinsed*
One 15-oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed*
One 15-oz. can light kidney beans, drained and rinsed*
1 green pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
I also added a diced jalapeno & cayenne for an extra kick. Add salt and pepper to taste.
1. Brown meat with chili powder in large skillet; drain.
2. Add the meat, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans, green pepper and onion to Crock-Pot.
3. Cook in Crock-Pot on high for 4 hours. Set to warm.
For your weekend breakfast try some greek yogurt parfaits! Layer greek yogurt, berries.yogurt and some granola. Mix it up with different fruits and flavors!
For lunch- Try some pitas filled with lean lunch meat, hummus, carrots, lettuce, tomato. Veggie? Skip the meat, add more hummus and fill with extra veggies.tt
Dinner- make it a taco bar kinda night. Lean meat, turkey, shrimp, chicken. Taco shells and all the fixings. Don’t buy the taco seasoning packets, psh. You can do better than that. Try-cumin, garlic & onion powder, s&p, chili powder and cilantro.
Have a great week!!
